O catálogo de Revistas eletrônicas de Odontologia forma a coleção Rev@Odonto que é produto da participação de editores científicos da área de odontologia, para contribuir com o aumento da visibilidade da produção científica da área, publicada em revistas nacionais brasileiras indexadas nas bases de dados Bibliografia Brasileira de Odontologia (BBO) e Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe de Informação em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS). O objetivo deste site é disponibilizar periódicos científicos de interesse para a área odontológica, em ambiente digital e com acesso aberto promovendo a democratização do acesso ao conhecimento científico produzido na área de Odontologia e áreas afins, por meio de acesso universal e gratuito às publicações de periódicos científicos de Odontologia, facilitando a busca e recuperação da informação, através de uma plataforma de acesso unificada, a partir de um mesmo endereço e utilizando a metodologia SciELO, garantindo a compatibilização das publicações. Catálogo para la generación de diagramas de componentes del Sistema de Información para la Salud en Cuba / Catalog for generating diagrams of components for the Health Information System in Cuba

El Ministerio de Salud Pública (MINSAP) ha definido la informatización del sector como tarea fundamental, con el objetivo de proveer al Sistema Nacional de Salud de información confiable, consistente y oportuna para la toma de decisiones, a través del uso óptimo de las tecnologías y de la integración a la infraestructura global de la información. En este marco, la Dirección Nacional de Informática del MINSAP define que el Grupo de Integración de Soluciones (GIS) perteneciente a la empresa SOFTEL, brinde soporte tecnológico para garantizar la integración de las aplicaciones que conforman una solución informática para la salud. Como herramienta de soporte se implementa el Catálogo para la generación de diagramas de componentes del Sistema de Información para la Salud (SISalud). En el proceso de desarrollo de las aplicaciones informáticas para la salud, el catálogo facilita la integración, al generar las relaciones de dependencia entre los componentes de SISalud, a partir de la representación de las vistas o diagramas de implementación de la arquitectura de los componentes desarrollados. Se hace uso del lenguaje Unificado de Modelado (UML) y de PHP y JavaScript. El sistema permite disminuir los tiempos de respuestas de los equipos de desarrollo, obtener información relacionada con la arquitectura y contar con un espacio para generar y transferir el conocimiento para la continuidad del trabajo(AU)

The Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) has defined the computerization of the sector as a fundamental task. The objective is to provide the National System of Health with reliable, consistent and opportune information for the decision making, through the good use of technologies and the integration with the global infrastructure of the information. In order to this, the National Headquarter of Computer Science of MINSAP defines that the Group of Integration of Solutions (GIS), which belongs to the company SOFTEL, has to offer technological support to guarantee the integration of the applications that bring computer solutions for the health. As a support tool, the Catalog is implemented for the generation of diagrams of components of the System of Information for the Health (SISalud). In the process of development of the computer applications for the health, the catalogue facilitates the integration process, when generating the dependence relationships among the components of SISalud, starting from the representation of the views or diagrams of implementation of the architecture of the developed components. The Unified Modeling Language (UML), PHP and JavaScript are used. The system allows minimizing the times of answers for the development teams to obtain information related with the architecture and to have a space to generate and to transfer the knowledge for the continuity of the work(AU)

A cost-sharing formula for online circulation and a union catalog through a regional, multitype library cooperative.

The experience of the Capitol Region Library Council and the University of Connecticut Health Center in developing a cost allocation formula for a circulation and online catalog shared by twenty-nine libraries is reviewed. The resulting formula identifies a basic unit cost as a minimum for each system participant.

Regional Online Union Catalog of the Greater Midwest Regional Medical Library Network: development and operation.

The GMRMLN Online Catalog was developed as an easily accessible locator tool for monographs and audiovisuals held within the Greater Midwest Regional Medical Library Network. The catalog was generated from machine-readable records in MARC formats contributed by regional libraries. It was mounted by BRS as a private database and is fully free text searchable using BRS search. Each institutional file was merged and purged of duplicates to create a single entry for each title. The catalog features an online interlibrary loan system that automatically routes a request to the two nearest, smallest libraries that own the title. If the request is not filled within the region, the system automatically routes it to the National Library of Medicine without the need to rekeyboard data. The system collects management data on interlibrary loan processing. Funding for the catalog permitted a trial period of use with cost support. Data on system operation were gathered during this demonstration.

A union catalog of monographs: another approach.

The rationale for and the production of the 1977 TALON Union Catalog of Monographs are described. The 158,859 records include the existing machine-readable records for six health sciences libraries plus the cataloging of six others, converted by matching other data bases and by keypunching. The method and costs of production are discussed. Use of Computer-Output-Microfiche (COM) significantly decreased the cost and time required for publication. The $.076 unit cost per entry, with both author and title access for the COM method, is almost one-half the unit cost for the previous method which offered only main-entry access. The TALON Catalog compares favorably with the Midwest Medical Union Catalog. The addition of the title index significantly increases its usefulness. However, the unique feature of the TALON Catalog may be its machine-readable form which offers the potential for quantitative analyses of health sciences library collections. Such data may be essential for rational management of limited library funds.

TALON--the first five years.

The South Central Regional Medical Library Program, Region IX in the national network of medical libraries, was one of the last to be organized and funded. The particular makeup of this organization has permitted a good deal of flexibility in the identification and implementation of various types of network services and activities. The following is a brief account of some of these network functions during the first five years relating the successes and failures in network strategies and describing the further evolution of programs and refinement of a regional plan which will advance network services.

A computer-generated catalog of audiovisuals.

A computer-generated catalog of nonprint media is described. Examples are given of four access points to the data base: (1) main entry, (2) title, (3) MeSH terms, and (4) broad subject categories. The data input procedure is summarized. The AV catalog as the basis for a union list is evaluated, and finally, the catalog in relation to certain local problems is discussed.

The PHILSOM system--one user's experience.

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio joined the PHILSOM system, a comprehensive serials control network, in 1971. The experiences of the library in using the system are described. The major benefit of the system has been multiple copies of the holdings list which have made the serial records publicly accessible and significantly increased their value. Tallies of these lists' use indicate that more than half of serials-related questions are now answered directly by the users. The effects of PHILSOM on the procedures of the serials department--processing, claiming, bindery, and personnel are described. Costs to the network and the UTHSCSA Library are briefly summarized.

Library cooperation: wave of the future or ripple?

Little of the literature in library cooperation applies specifically to library service for the health sciences. Based on experience in and observations of the cooperation of health science libraries, this short lecture reviews aspects of general library cooperation, networks, and consortia. The effects on library operation of several cooperative activities are enumerated and cooperation management is discussed briefly.

A cooperative serial acquisition program: thoughts on a response to mounting fiscal pressures.

A regionally cooperative method of distributing responsibility for every serial title in a region is outlined. The system assures the equitable distribution of the number of titles for which each library is committed. Later refinements suggest an equalization of cost commitments on the basis of fiscal resources available for serial purchases. It is pointed out that fiscal realities will force some sort of serial acquisition cooperation for all viable medical libraries.

Union list development: control of the serial literature.

The discussion covers the development of a national union list or finding tool for biomedical serial holdings and its integration into the National Serials Data Program, which is being developed under the auspices of the three National Libraries. Specific topics which are covered include: (1) Selection of the Union Catalog of Medical Periodicals (UCMP) as the basis for a biomedical list and the status of that activity; (2) discussion of the various methods of recording holdings; (3) status of the National Serials Data Program and a discussion of its relationship to the UCMP file; and (4) status of the Standard Serial Number and its relationship to other existing coding schemes for serial titles.

Regional utilization of the union catalog of medical periodicals system.

This paper describes regional utilization of the Union Catalog of Medical Periodicals system and data base in producing union lists outside Metropolitan New York, the area served by the Union Catalog. A basic introduction to the Medical Library Center of New York's UCMP system is set forth, demonstrating the system's value in the production of such medical and paramedical union lists throughout the country. Several applications are then described, showing how these union lists were produced.
